Amy Klobuchar (D-Minn.) and Jerry Moran (R-Kan.) have unveiled bipartisan legislation to protect senior Americans from scams during the coronavirus pandemic, reports Fox News . The Protecting Seniors from Emergency Scams Act would instruct the U.S. Federal Trade Commission (FTC) to report to Congress on scams targeting seniors during the pandemic and make recommendations on preventing future scams during emergencies. The FTC would additionally update its website with information to help seniors and caregivers access contacts for law enforcement and adult protective services. The bill would have the commission coordinate with the media to circulate the information to ensure seniors and caregivers are notified. "We must ensure that seniors are not being taken advantage of during the coronavirus pandemic," said Klobuchar. "All Americans deserve safety and dignity in their senior years, yet new fraudulent schemes designed to target seniors appear almost daily. This bipartisan legislation will help protect seniors from fraud during this public health crisis and help prevent emergency-related scams in the future."
